## 📦 Install the modpack

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Get the Modrinth App

Download and install the [Modrinth App](https://modrinth.com/app). It handles the modpack, Java and updates for you.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Install Cobblemon AU

Open the [Cobblemon AU modpack page](https://modrinth.com/modpack/cobblemon-au) and click **Install**. The pack runs on Minecraft 1.21.1 with Fabric, and the app sets all of that up.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Launch and join

Press **Play**. Go to **Multiplayer** and you'll see **Cobblemon AU** already in your server list. If it's missing, click **Add Server** and enter:

`cobblemon-au.com`
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Accept the server resource pack

When you join you'll be asked to download the server resource pack. Click **Yes**. It's required, and it adds our custom Pokémon skins, Radiant textures and rank badges.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

{% hint style="success" %}
✅ That's it. You'll land in the Hub lobby. Head to [Your first steps](/cobblemon-au-docs/getting-started/first-steps.md) next.

## 🔄 Updating the modpack

When we release an update, your game has to match the server or you won't be able to join. Close the game completely first, then:

1. Open the Modrinth App.
2. Click into the **Cobblemon AU** page.
3. Go to the **Content** tab.
4. Click **Switch version** (next to the ⇄ arrows icon).
5. Select the version marked **Current**.
6. Click **Update** in the bottom-right corner.
7. Wait for it to finish, then launch the game as normal.

{% hint style="warning" %}
**NOTE:** If your modpack keeps giving an error when you try to update:

1. Click the **Settings** button (the gear icon) at the bottom left of the Modrinth App.
2. Click **Resource Management**.
3. In the **App cache** section, click **Purge cache**.
4. Once the cache is purged, follow the steps above again to update your modpack.
   {% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://cobblemon-au.gitbook.io/cobblemon-au-docs/getting-started/joining.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
